At P.E.A.K, we take a multidisciplinary approach to pediatric feeding by incorporating the knowledge, skills, and expertise from both a Speech Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist.
Our goal is to increase awareness about children with feeding difficulties and provide families the knowledge, resources, and road map to navigate this journey.
When is Picky Eating a Problem?
While many children go through phases of “picky eating” that are developmentally appropriate, they tend to outgrow these phases without much difficulty.
Red Flags for Picky Eaters who can benefit from feeding therapy:
Have less than 20 foods in their diet
Have meltdowns and tantrums surrounding eating foods
Avoids foods due to their texture (wet, mushy, slimy, etc.)
May gag or vomit when in the presence of certain foods
Refuses foods if not the brand, shape, color, or prepared how they expect
May stop eating a food they used to like and not reacquire it
Does not eat family meals or in other settings (restaurants, parties, etc.)
Mealtime is a source of stress for the family
